Arnold was facing conviction of pornography charges. He was hoping to separate his case from his sons case. In order to do so, he pleaded guilty to abuse charges and was then promised 10-30 years in prison. He confessed to abusing other boys as well. Arnold committed suicide in prison in 1995.

Jesse Friedman kept his innocence for a year. He changed his mind after officials submitted a third indictment, this one charging him on 198 counts, and Mr. Goldstein confessed to his role in sex crimes and began cooperating with the authorities. Facing a possible 50-year sentence, Jesse Friedman pleaded guilty in December 1988 to 25 counts of abuse. He was given a sentence of 6 to 18 years in prison and served 13 years before being released in December 2001
